Is amniocentesis performed on everyone ?
No, fetal diagnostic procedures are done if anything out of normal is seen in routine ultrasound.
What different fetal tests are present?
Amniocentesis, CVS, fetal blood sampling, fetal echo, etc.
Can intellectual disabilities be detected via ultra sound?
No, if there is an intellectually sub normal baby in the family, they need to be evaluated by a clinical geneticist before visiting fetal medicine specialist.
How is fetal medicine helpful?
Many conditions can be corrected in the fetus when in womb itself. However for few conditions, better treatment can be planned beforehand once the baby is born.
